Ready To Go - A car named Dave - Gallery

Day One - Day two - Day Three - Day Four - Day Five - The End!

Thoughts from the team - Chris - Adrian - Dan - Al

Day 0

Thursday Morning we set off for Calais and the start of the rally, we had our first encounter with the police 3 minutes later! fortunately they were busy doing other things and had a laugh at the car.

The drive to Calais was OK the usual hold ups on the M1 car park and the M25 car park, we did notice our fuel gauge was a little temperamental when it it got to half a tank and but decided "Dave" was just bored.

Approximately six hours later we were on the train heading to Calais. On arrival in Calais with a little bit of team work we found the hotel and start point of the rally. With 3 of us sharing the driving we soon learned we had different driving styles and where as its bad enough having one back street driver (usually the wife or girlfriend) having 3 other people doing it with no tact or diplomacy was going to be fun!

We got registered and went for something to eat, it was at this point that I introduced the others to the international language of "Dave", which for some reason they had never heard of, this works on the principle if you call everyone "Dave" and smile they instantly recognise what your saying and language does not become a barrier. The international language of the Dave works in all countries and with all nationalities.

It was decided once I had proved the language of Dave did work that we would honour the car and call it "DAVE" which is how Dave became our 5th team member, we also had a 6th team member called John who was the sat nav, (called John because the voice is John Cleese) unfortunately John was on occasion not very helpful mainly because he did not do mornings especially mornings when we needed him! But lucky for us we had the Loquax duck on the front of the bonnet leading the way.

So there we go all set for the start of the rally, "Dave" had already covered 275 miles.

It should be mentioned that on the journey down to Calais we did discuss the fact that we had no spares and no breakdown cover, however I had packed two screw drivers! but Adrian not quite having the same faith as me and was also under the illusion that "Dave" had been given a mini service, brought along some sticky tape, a couple of cheap spanners and a tube of Araldite !? should we breakdown we were fully equipped for a roadside engine rebuild because Araldite fixes everything.

Just in case we have not mentioned it our sponsors were Loquax the UK competition Portal

We would like to offer a MASSIVE thank you to them because not only did they sponsor us but they made a very generous donation to our charity and so did many of their loyal following. So please visit Loquax the UK competition Portal
